Job Title

GPU Software Architect

Role Summary

As a Principal Engineer on the Data Center Group Software Architecture team, you will lead architecture and design of GPU software across the stack - drivers, firmware, APIs, algorithms and applications - and drive hardware–software co-design and technical strategy for Intel’s GPU platform.

Work focuses on power/performance architecture, scalable software solutions, and mentoring technical leaders to deliver production-ready GPU software for data center and client products.

Experience Level

Senior - typically requires 10+ years of industry experience (see Education Requirements for degree/experience combinations).

Responsibilities

Design, guide, and oversee development of GPU software and related firmware across the stack.

  • Architect scalable, high-performance GPU software: drivers, APIs, runtimes and applications.
  • Research and design power-management techniques for GPUs and SoCs to balance sustained and burst performance.
  • Define firmware/software algorithms and interfaces; drive hardware–software co-design and codesign efforts.
  • Lead pathfinding and exploration of emerging GPU technologies and architectures.
  • Mentor and develop technical leaders; align technical vision with organizational strategy and execution.

Requirements

Core technical requirements and other conditions for the role.

  • Experience in power-management architecture in the GPU/CPU domain and algorithms for balancing power and performance for complex GPU workloads, including pre/post-silicon tuning.
  • Strong understanding of 3D, compute and media pipelines to analyze firmware and software flows.
  • Experience interpreting graphics driver requirements and designing drivers based on hardware, OS, or industry specifications.
  • Strong operating system architecture knowledge and kernel-mode / low-level programming skills.
  • Experience with hardware–software co-design and defining interfaces between firmware, software, and hardware.
  • Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills; ability to influence technical strategy.
  • Position of Trust: role requires consent to and successful completion of an extended background investigation.

Education Requirements

Candidate must have at least a Bachelor’s degree with 10–15 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 10–12 years of experience in graphics and media low-level technologies.
