GPU Physical Design Engineer Intern
Role Summary
As a Physical Design Engineering Undergraduate Intern on Intel's Data Center Group (DCG) team, you will support physical design and layout for high-performance SoCs, helping meet power, performance, and area targets.
Work includes implementation, verification, and assisting development of design methodologies and automation tools while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level intern. Suitable for current undergraduate students with 0–1 years of hands-on experience from internships, academic projects, coursework, or training.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementation, validation, and collaboration on SoC physical design tasks.
- Assist with placement, routing, and optimization of high-performance SoC designs.
- Perform design rule checks (DRC) and layout versus schematic (LVS) validations.
- Analyze and help resolve design challenges related to timing, power, and area.
- Contribute to development and enhancement of design methodologies and automation tools.
- Support hardware engineering teams in validating and debugging design features through simulation and analysis.
Requirements
Must-have skills and conditions for initial consideration; preferred items listed below.
- Experience with EDA tools for physical design (Cadence, Synopsys, or similar).
- Knowledge of semiconductor design principles, including timing, power optimization, and layout techniques.
- Intermediate to advanced English proficiency (verbal and written).
- Unrestricted, permanent right to work in Costa Rica.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with scripting languages for design automation (Python, Perl).
- Strong analytical and collaborative problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated interest in advancing semiconductor design and related technologies.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (undergraduate). Academic projects or internships in physical design are acceptable; the role expects 0–1 years of hands-on experience.
