GPU Physical Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
GPU Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical implementation and optimization of integrated and discrete GPU blocks on advanced process technologies within Intel's Data Center Group (DCG). The role covers synthesis, floorplanning, place-and-route, static timing analysis, and layout verification to deliver high-performance GPU designs.
Experience Level
Entry-level - 0–1 years of hands-on physical design experience; relevant experience may come from internships, academic projects, or coursework.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Execute physical design flows: floor planning, synthesis, place-and-route, and layout optimization.
- Perform static timing analysis, formal verification, and layout verification to meet design requirements.
- Develop and maintain automation and tool flows using scripting to improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve implementation and timing issues.
- Contribute to defining design constraints such as target frequency and operating voltages driven by product specifications.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Practical experience with ASIC/physical design flows: synthesis, place-and-route, static timing analysis, and layout verification.
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and scripting in Python and TCL.
- Understanding of library collateral qualification and logic/VLSI/ASIC design principles.
- Intermediate English proficiency.
- Unrestricted permanent right to work in Costa Rica.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with SoC integration and floorplan/timing integration across multiple blocks.
- Hands-on use of industry-standard EDA tools and methodologies.
- Experience applying data analytics or machine learning techniques to physical design problems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-team collaboration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field is listed as the minimum qualification. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is a preferred qualification (often acceptable with no prior professional experience). The posting indicates 0–1 years of hands-on physical design experience may be satisfied via internships, academic projects, coursework, or hands-on training.
