Role Summary
Internship on the GPU Compiler team working on LLVM-based backend and assembler components. The team implements compiler passes and optimizations to emit high-performance GPU machine code for graphics and compute workloads.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship intended for students and early-career engineers; suitable for those currently enrolled in a degree program.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Understand, modify, and improve an NVIDIA GPU compiler and assembler implemented in C++.
- Design and develop new compiler passes and optimizations to improve performance, robustness, and maintainability.
- Implement, test, and debug code changes and participate in code reviews.
- Collaborate with global compiler, hardware, and application teams to resolve issues and validate improvements.
- Contribute to tooling and performance/compile-time analysis where applicable.
Requirements
Must-have skills and attributes:
- Excellent hands-on C++ programming skills.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals focused on producing robust, maintainable solutions.
- Good communication and documentation skills; able to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with compiler code generation or other compiler internals.
- Experience developing CUDA, DirectX, OpenGL, or Vulkan applications.
- Experience with performance analysis and compile-time analysis tools.
- Exposure to machine-learning techniques.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a B.S. or higher degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Master's or PhD preferred.
