Job Title

GPU Compiler Engineer (Fixed-Term)

Role Summary

Develop and optimize compiler translations and optimizations targeting GPUs to improve performance and efficiency for AI and data-center workloads. The role is part of Intel's Data Center Group compiler team in Munich and contributes to compiler technology, performance analysis, and hardware-aware optimization work.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities focus on compiler development for GPU targets and performance-driven optimization.

  • Design and implement compiler translations and optimizations for GPU targets.
  • Prototype and evaluate new optimization techniques to improve runtime performance and efficiency.
  • Perform measurements, workload analysis, and performance tuning on hardware.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to validate compiler changes against real workloads.
  • Use standard development tools and practices to produce maintainable compiler code and tests.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant professional experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Professional experience programming in C and C++.
  • Must-have: Practical knowledge of LLVM internals and/or compiler technology for CPU/GPU.
  • Must-have: Experience with development tools and industry-standard software engineering practices.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience developing compiler optimizations (middle-end or backend) and performing performance analysis or tuning.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with GPU architecture, programming models, and compute APIs (for example OpenCL, oneAPI).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with heterogeneous architectures and AI workloads.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field plus 4+ years relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 3+ years relevant experience; or Ph.D. with 0 years relevant experience. (These degree-and-experience combinations are the stated minimums.)
