Job Title

GPU Compiler Development Engineer

Role Summary

Implement and optimize GPU compiler operator lowerings in MLIR for the ROCm Execution Provider (ONNX Runtime) to run large language and vision models efficiently on AMD GPUs. Work on a core compiler and performance team alongside architecture, MLIR, and kernel engineers to close per-operator performance gaps and support hardware bring-ups.

Experience Level

Mid-level. No specific years-of-experience requirement is stated in the posting.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with AMD architecture specialists to influence and improve future GPU products.
  • Implement and unit-test ONNX operator lowerings in MLIR.
  • Analyze per-operator performance and apply data-driven optimizations versus competing runtimes.
  • Participate in ASIC and hardware bring-ups and support target enablement.
  • Debug and fix compiler, lowering, and kernel issues; research alternative implementations for performance or correctness.
  • Design and develop new compiler or runtime technologies to improve model execution.
  • Maintain technical relationships with cross-functional peers and partners.

Requirements

Core technical requirements and desirable skills.

  • Must-have: Strong object-oriented programming skills in C/C++ with attention to code quality and unit testing.
  • Must-have: Working knowledge of MLIR or LLVM and GPU or parallel programming concepts.
  • Must-have: Experience with development on Linux and Windows, familiarity with debuggers, source control (Git), and profilers.
  • Nice-to-have: HIP/CUDA, ONNX/ONNX Runtime experience, and performance profiling/optimization expertise.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with kernel development, ASIC bring-ups, or hardware validation.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with AI coding assistants and developer productivity tools.
  • Communication: Effective problem-solving and communication skills; working proficiency in English preferred.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
