GCC Compiler Engineer
TenstorrentJob Title
GCC Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
Design, develop, and optimize compilers for Tenstorrent’s custom RISC-V CPUs and AI vector engines. The role is hands-on and works across hardware and software teams to improve performance, programmability, and integration of custom toolchains into real applications.
This role is hybrid, based out of Santa Clara, CA; Austin, TX; or Toronto, ON.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The team is open to candidates at various experience levels; final level and offer will be determined during the interview process. No specific years-of-experience requirement stated.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementing and optimizing compiler support for Tenstorrent hardware and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deploy toolchains.
- Design, implement, and optimize GCC and/or LLVM passes, backends, code generators, and target-specific optimizations for custom RISC-V and AI vector hardware.
- Integrate and validate toolchains with real applications and runtime environments to ensure correctness and performance.
- Profile, benchmark, and tune compiler-generated code across traditional compute and ML workloads.
- Collaborate with hardware architects and software engineers on hardware-software co-design to improve performance and programmability.
- Work with ML engineers to add compiler support for emerging AI workloads and frameworks.
- Contribute to maintenance, testing, and integration of compiler toolchains within the development workflow.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints for the role; nice-to-have items follow.
- Must-have: Deep knowledge of GCC internals; familiarity with LLVM internals is acceptable.
- Must-have: Strong C/C++ development skills and experience with performance analysis and optimization.
- Must-have: Experience optimizing compilers for custom hardware targets, preferably RISC-V or vector accelerators.
- Must-have: Ability to collaborate across hardware and software teams and communicate technical trade-offs clearly.
- Must-have: Employment may be contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology (per U.S. export regulations).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with ML frameworks, compiler support for AI workloads, vectorization, upstream open-source contributions to GCC/LLVM, or prior work on toolchain integration.
Education Requirements
