GCC Compiler Engineer

Role Summary

Develop, port, and optimize the GCC compiler and GNU toolchain for a new processor platform. Work with cross-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver platform-specific compiler support, debug toolchain issues, and improve functionality and performance for target applications.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include delivering a working GCC toolchain for a new architecture and improving its performance and reliability.

  • Port GCC to the new processor architecture and computational model.
  • Build, maintain, and manage the GNU toolchain on the target platform.
  • Debug compiler and toolchain issues across functionality and performance.
  • Run functionality and performance regressions and tests.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations for specific applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineers to design and implement compiler features and improvements.
  • Integrate and validate open-source components with the platform's Linux-based environment.

Requirements

  • Proven C/C++ development and debugging experience with GCC.
  • Deep understanding of compiler design and implementation for processors and/or GPUs.
  • Strong experience with the GNU toolchain and integrating toolchain components on Linux.
  • Skilled in object-oriented design and standard software engineering practices.
  • Experience running and analyzing performance regressions and profiling compiler-generated code.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Nice-to-have: LLVM experience.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering (specified).
