Functional Safety Engineering Intern
Role Summary
The intern will support the Functional Safety Competence Centre (FuSa CC) in safety architecture, requirements and analysis for automotive and industrial SoC products. The team covers a broad range of devices from low-power cost-sensitive parts to high-performance multi-domain systems.
This role provides hands-on experience with safety activities and engineering tools while working with experienced safety architects and cross-functional engineering teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Internship - suitable for students currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or equivalent; typically 0β2 years of professional experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities to support functional safety engineering activities.
- Support functional safety activities across product development.
- Contribute to development and documentation of safety requirements.
- Assist with safety architecture tasks and design analysis.
- Participate in safety analysis activities (e.g., FMEA, FTA) as directed.
- Use engineering tools such as ELM, Medini Analyzer, Cameo and Enterprise Architect (EA).
- Leverage internal AI-based tools to improve FuSa processes and efficiency.
- Collaborate with international, multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Requirements
Must-have practical skills, technical understanding, and interpersonal abilities.
- Understanding of digital design fundamentals, computer architecture, microcontrollers, or SoC design concepts.
- Exposure to embedded systems, hardware/software interaction, or semiconductor development.
- Basic knowledge of functional safety concepts and interest in automotive safety standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and global engineering environments.
- Familiarity with tools such as ELM, Medini, Cameo, or EA is a plus.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Automotive Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
