Functional Safety Engineer Intern (Analog IC)

Role Summary

6-month internship in the Analog Safety Development team focused on functional safety for analog power-management and gate-driver integrated circuits used in electrified vehicles. The intern will perform quantitative safety analyses (FMEDA), develop automation for safety metrics, and support delivery of ISO 26262 ASIL D solutions.

Experience Level

Entry-level - internship (6 months). Suitable for a student or recent graduate seeking practical experience in functional safety; no professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include performing safety analyses, automating evaluation workflows, and supporting cross-functional delivery to customers.

  • Perform quantitative safety analyses (FMEDA) using ANSYS Medini on ICs for electrified vehicles.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts to evaluate safety metrics by customer use case.
  • Manage product variants and customize safety modules/mechanisms based on customer configuration files.
  • Generate and export safety-analysis documentation and associated metrics for customer use cases.
  • Collaborate with product definition, architecture, and verification teams to meet project and safety requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of safety-analysis processes and tool usage.
  • Support customer enablement on functional-safety aspects.

Requirements

Skills and attributes expected for successful performance in the role.

  • Must-have: Basic understanding of functional-safety concepts; strong analytical skills and attention to detail; ability to work independently and in a team; good English communication (written and verbal).
  • Desirable: Familiarity with ANSYS Medini; experience with scripting languages such as Python; knowledge of PMIC architecture; familiarity with ISO 26262.

Education Requirements

Master-level study (Bac+5) or currently enrolled in an engineering/master's program in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Internship-level candidacy (student status) expected.
