Functional Safety Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for defining and implementing functional safety for analog power IC products to meet applicable automotive and industrial safety standards. Works with engineering teams and the Functional Safety Manager to derive requirements, architect hardware safety solutions, and maintain safety documentation.

Onsite role based in Livonia, MI.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include planning, designing, and documenting functional safety activities for power IC products.

  • Create and maintain safety plans to track safety activities for analog power IC products.
  • Architect hardware solutions to ensure product compliance with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 where applicable.
  • Support the Functional Safety Manager and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to derive functional safety requirements.
  • Monitor, document, and report functional safety management activities and compliance status.

Requirements

Qualifications and skills expected for this role.

  • Must-have: Practical knowledge of functional safety processes and standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) and experience working on hardware safety concepts for power ICs.
  • Must-have: Ability to create safety plans, write clear safety documentation, and collaborate with engineering teams and managers.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior experience in automotive functional safety or working with analog power IC product development.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
