Functional Safety Architect

Role Summary

Join NXP's Functional Safety Competence Centre to define and deliver platform- and IP-level functional safety solutions for automotive and industrial SoCs. The role focuses on safety architecture, safety analysis, and managing safety-critical IP as SEooC through its lifecycle in collaboration with design teams.

Experience Level

Senior role. The posting specifies candidates with practical functional-safety experience; the job qualifications reference a minimum of ~3 years of relevant experience for B.Tech holders and preferred 2+ years for Master's degree holders.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining safety requirements, delivering compliant safety solutions, and supporting integration and assessment.

  • Define safety requirements for platform and IP modules.
  • Deliver functional-safety platform and IP solutions compliant with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.
  • Manage platform/IP developed as SEooC through its lifecycle and coordinate with internal design teams.
  • Prepare safety modules for functional-safety assessment and support safety audits.
  • Support SoC integration of safety platform and IP, including implementation of IP assumptions of use.
  • Perform safety analyses (FMEDA, FTA, DFA) and plan/execute fault-injection activities.
  • Lead functional-safety development of IP, subsystems, or SoCs across lifecycle phases to ensure standard compliance.
  • Contribute to safety feature roadmaps and the internal functional-safety expert community; report compliance status and mitigation plans.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience.

  • Strong practical knowledge of ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.
  • Experience in complex SoC and IP development compliant to ISO 26262 (including Part 11).
  • Experience with safety audits and assessments.
  • Proficiency with safety-analysis techniques: FTA, DFA, FMEDA, and fault-injection methods.
  • Proven track record leading IP/subsystem/SoC functional-safety projects through lifecycle phases.
  • Ability to define platform/IP safety features and roadmaps and work with internal and external IP teams.
  • Experience reporting compliance status, identifying gaps, and defining mitigation actions.

Education Requirements

B.Tech in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience. A Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering or Computer Engineering with 2 or more years of experience is preferred.
