Framework Developer Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Framework Developer Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and maintain bare-metal validation framework used by Qualcomm's SoC Validation (SVE) team to validate Snapdragon SoCs in emulation, post-silicon, and production test environments. The role requires close collaboration with architects, designers, verification and software teams to deliver framework features that support hardware validation goals and production screening flows.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires 5+ years of hands-on silicon validation and embedded software development experience on modern CPU and SoC architectures.
Responsibilities
Produce, extend, and debug firmware and framework components that enable system/IP validation across emulation and post-silicon platforms.
- Design, develop and debug system/IP validation framework for bare-metal and lightweight RTOS environments.
- Implement framework features to support production ATE/MBIST testing and other manufacturing screening flows.
- Collaborate with IP, design, DV, and software teams to reproduce, analyze, and resolve complex HW/SW issues.
- Enable and maintain infrastructure on emulation, FPGA bring-up, and post-silicon systems.
- Optimize code and resolve build/linker and runtime issues in constrained environments.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and tools for the role.
- Proficient in embedded C/C++ for validation-focused firmware; familiarity with assembly.
- Working knowledge of ARMv8/ARMv9, x86, or RISC-V CPU architectures, interrupt handling, cache and IO coherency, and SMP/heterogeneous systems.
- Understanding of memory models, weakly ordered memory, memory barriers, and pipelined memory systems.
- Experience with software build toolchains (compilers, Makefiles, linkers, scatter files) and resolving linker issues.
- Hands-on experience with boot loader design and low-level bring-up and debug.
- Familiarity with JTAG, Lauterbach/Trace32 or similar kernel debuggers and using lab equipment (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes).
- Practical experience with scripting languages (Python, Perl) and basic HDLs (VHDL/Verilog) for integration/debug tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to SoC interconnects, power management, IPC techniques, and virtual memory/MMU concepts.
- Experience with GCC/Clang/RVDS toolchains, build automation (Jenkins), regression testing and automated test suites.
- Bring-up experience on FPGA/emulation platforms and production test flows.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering. Preferred: Master’s in Computer or Electrical Engineering. Alternate qualifications accepted per the posting: Bachelor’s +4 years relevant ASIC/design/validation work, Master’s +3 years, or PhD +2 years; equivalent practical experience is considered.
