Frame Engineering Intern (Jan–Jun 2027)
Role Summary
Support tape-out and frame engineering activities within the Tape Out organization at GlobalFoundries Singapore. The role focuses on frame structure design, generating automation input files, cross-team coordination, and process improvements to improve productivity and tape-out quality.
Work closely with global Frame engineers, fabs, application and product engineering, and design enablement to deliver reliable manufacturing-ready frames.
Experience Level
Entry-level intern for current undergraduate students. Full-time internship (≈40 hours/week) for 16–24 weeks beginning January 2027.
Responsibilities
Day-to-day and project responsibilities may include:
- Design and generate frame structures and layout files; prepare inputs for automation, fabs, and mask houses.
- Use and customize internal and commercial software tools to enhance design process productivity.
- Execute ad-hoc changes, prioritize work queues, and manage hand-offs across geographic locations.
- Assess, escalate, promote, hold, or reject tape-out support issues in coordination with FAB, Tape-out Logistics, and FAEs.
- Coordinate with Application Engineering, Product Engineering, Release Team and Design Enablement to support customer tape-outs.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to reduce cycle time and cost.
- Apply structured problem-solving and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to mitigate risks and improve quality.
- Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS) requirements in all activities.
Requirements
Must-have skills and availability:
- Working knowledge of Unix shells and interest/aptitude to learn scripting/programming and domain-specific data formats.
- Experience with Cadence Virtuoso environment and SKILL programming.
- Ability to work full-time (~40 hours/week) and commit to a 16–24 week credit-bearing internship starting January 2027.
- Good communication skills and ability to coordinate work across teams and locations.
Preferred (nice-to-have):
- Prior related internship or co-op experience.
- Device layout knowledge or experience.
- Experience with Cadence Mask Compose.
- Inquisitive mindset and proactive learning attitude.
Education Requirements
Actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field at an accredited institution. Must be in good academic standing and eligible for a credit-bearing internship during the January–June 2027 period.
