Job Title
FPGA Verification Engineer, Air Vehicles
Role Summary
Responsible for ownership and execution of verification for FPGA/SoC designs on AMD (Xilinx) platforms for flight-critical avionics. Work focuses on UVM-based, coverage-driven verification of RTL and integration with hardware validation and board bring-up.
Position is based in Costa Mesa, CA and supports compliance with avionics safety standards such as DO-254.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career — approximately 2+ years of FPGA/ASIC verification experience is required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing and executing verification strategies and tests to achieve coverage and closure for FPGA/SoC designs.
- Architect and implement UVM test environments (drivers, monitors, predictors, scoreboards).
- Create verification plans traceable to system and hardware requirements.
- Author SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA) and build functional coverage models.
- Develop constrained-random and transaction-level test sequences and drive code-coverage closure.
- Maintain regression suites and track verification progress and metrics.
- Debug failures at the HDL and system level using waveform tools and simulation logs.
- Collaborate with RTL designers on reviews, bug fixes, and micro-architecture changes.
- Support hardware validation, board bring-up, and integration on target platforms.
- Ensure verification processes meet DO-254 and relevant safety-critical standards.
- Author verification closure reports and coverage summaries.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and other requirements.
- 2+ years FPGA/ASIC verification experience (required).
- Proficient in SystemVerilog, UVM methodology, and SVA; experience extending UVM testbenches.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
- Experience with industry simulators (Questa, VCS, Xcelium, or Vivado).
- Experience with Git-based workflows, code review, and Linux development environments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to work with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Eligible to obtain and hold a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience with DO-254, avionics verification standards, or safety-critical processes.
- Formal verification, CDC verification tools, or SVUnit-style unit testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with digital interfaces (Ethernet, PCIe, JESD204C, MIL-STD-1553, SPI) and SoC/ARM platforms.
- Verification automation, CI/CD integration, scripting (Python, Tcl), and Nix-based build environments.
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
