FPGA Verification Engineer
Role Summary
The FPGA Verification Engineer will develop SystemVerilog/UVM verification environments, execute test plans, and drive coverage closure for FPGA-based designs, blocks, and sub-systems. You will work closely with FPGA and RTL design teams and support hardware bring-up when required.
Location: Ottawa, ON, Canada. Salary range: $120,000β$170,000 CAD per year plus company bonus and benefits.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Mid-Career). The role expects approximately 5+ years of FPGA or ASIC verification experience.
Responsibilities
Principal duties include verification environment development, test execution, debugging, and coverage analysis for FPGA designs.
- Develop and maintain verification environments using SystemVerilog and UVM.
- Create and run testbenches, test cases, and formalized test plans.
- Debug simulation issues and identify root causes; collaborate with design engineers to resolve defects.
- Perform code and functional coverage analysis and drive coverage closure.
- Integrate and leverage third-party VIP where appropriate.
- Support hardware bring-up and validation activities as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful candidates; additional assets noted separately.
- 5+ years of FPGA or ASIC verification experience.
- Strong knowledge of Verilog and SystemVerilog.
- Hands-on experience with UVM (or OVM) verification methodologies.
- Experience with commercial simulators (examples: Questa, VCS, Xcelium).
- Familiarity with constrained-random verification, assertions, and functional coverage.
- Understanding of FPGA architectures and toolchains (Xilinx, Intel/Altera).
- Experience with standard bus protocols such as AXI or APB.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-have: experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, JESD), scripting (Python, Perl), and prior hardware bring-up involvement.
