Job Title

FPGA System Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Aerospace, Defense, and Government (ADG) solutions team to architect, implement, optimize, and benchmark FPGA-based signal processing and embedded computing systems for strategic customers.

The role involves customer-facing engagement, collaboration with internal FPGA tool and software teams, and development of reference designs, benchmarks, and technical collateral to demonstrate FPGA performance for DSP, communications, AI inference, and RF applications.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically requires 3+ years of FPGA design and algorithm implementation experience.

Responsibilities

Work with customers and internal teams to deliver FPGA system solutions and technical enablement.

  • Design and implement FPGA solutions using RTL, DSP Builder, and embedded processors for defense and aerospace use cases.
  • Deploy and optimize DSP, communications, AI, and signal-processing algorithms on FPGA devices for strategic customers.
  • Create benchmarks, proof-of-concepts, reference designs, and system-level demonstrations.
  • Analyze and optimize throughput, latency, power, and resource utilization at the system level.
  • Support customer designs via architecture reviews, debugging, performance tuning, and technical enablement.
  • Collaborate with FPGA software/tools teams to identify customer needs and influence tool and product improvements.
  • Produce design documentation, application notes, training materials, and best-practice guides.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and constraints required to perform the role; preferred skills listed separately.

  • 3+ years of FPGA design and algorithm implementation experience.
  • 2+ years of software development experience in C/C++.
  • 1+ year of FPGA development using Verilog or VHDL.
  • Strong understanding of digital logic design and FPGA development methodologies.
  • Experience debugging and validating complex hardware/software systems.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to work in customer-facing roles.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain U.S. Government security clearance and any required U.S. export authorizations.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, CUDA, Quartus Prime, ModelSim/Questa, RTOS, FPGA SoCs, and heterogeneous computing.
  • Background in DSP, signal/image processing, wireless communications, AI/deep learning, high-speed ADC/DAC, RF or SDR systems.
  • Experience optimizing FPGA implementations for performance, power, and resource utilization.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Preferred: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
