Job Title

FPGA System Design Engineer

Role Summary

Work with Aerospace, Defense, and Government (ADG) customers to architect, implement, optimize, and benchmark signal-processing and embedded computing solutions on Altera FPGA platforms.

The role involves customer-facing technical enablement, developing reference designs and benchmarks, and collaborating with internal FPGA tools and software teams to improve product capabilities.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically requires 3+ years of FPGA design and algorithm implementation experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver production-quality FPGA system solutions and customer support for defense and aerospace applications.

  • Design and implement FPGA solutions using RTL, DSP Builder, and embedded processors.
  • Deploy and optimize DSP, communications, AI, and signal-processing algorithms on FPGA devices for strategic customers.
  • Create benchmarks, proof-of-concept demos, reference designs, and system-level solutions that demonstrate FPGA performance.
  • Analyze and optimize implementations for throughput, latency, power, and resource utilization.
  • Support customer design activities: architecture reviews, debugging, performance tuning, and technical enablement.
  • Collaborate with FPGA software/tools teams to capture requirements and influence tool/product features.
  • Produce documentation, application notes, training materials, and best-practice guides.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and constraints for the role.

  • 3+ years of FPGA design and algorithm implementation experience.
  • 2+ years of software development using C/C++.
  • 1+ year of FPGA development experience using Verilog or VHDL.
  • Strong understanding of digital logic design and FPGA development methodologies.
  • Experience debugging and validating complex hardware/software systems.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance when required.

Nice-to-have technologies and domain experience:

  • MATLAB/Simulink, CUDA, Quartus Prime, ModelSim/Questa.
  • RTOS experience and embedded processor/SoC FPGA experience.
  • Background in DSP, signal/image processing, wireless/communications, AI/deep learning, high-speed ADC/DAC, RF/SDR systems.
  • Customer-facing communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
