FPGA Silicon Validation Engineer
AlteraJob Title
FPGA Silicon Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Validate and characterize FPGA devices and platforms from first-silicon bring-up through production release. Work with architecture, design, verification, firmware, software, and product teams to diagnose and resolve hardware, firmware, RTL, and system-level issues and to deliver validation infrastructure and automated test frameworks.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 3+ years of industry experience in silicon validation, hardware validation, or equivalent roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on silicon bring-up, validation, debugging, and test automation.
- Develop and execute silicon validation plans for FPGA devices and IP subsystems.
- Perform first-silicon bring-up, feature validation, characterization, and production readiness testing.
- Design, build, and maintain validation environments, automated test frameworks, and infrastructure.
- Debug silicon, FPGA fabric, embedded processors, firmware, and platform-level issues using lab equipment and software tools.
- Collect failure data, perform root-cause analysis, and drive issue resolution across engineering teams.
- Create customer-focused validation scenarios reflecting real-world deployments and support post-silicon debug and product qualification.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience listed below; nice-to-have items are separated.
Must-have:
- 3+ years industry experience in silicon validation, hardware validation, or first-silicon bring-up.
- Strong digital design understanding and hands-on hardware debugging skills.
- Experience debugging FPGA fabric, embedded processors, firmware, or system-level interactions.
- Experience developing automated tests, validation environments, or test frameworks.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with C and Python for test development and automation.
- Familiarity with FPGA architecture and device subsystems.
- Experience using high-speed test and measurement equipment (real-time/sampling oscilloscopes, high-frequency signal sources, precision power supplies).
- Prior internship or industry work experience in silicon/FPGA validation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics) plus approximately 3 years of industry work experience as stated in the posting. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply; no explicit alternative "equivalent experience" language was provided.
