FPGA Silicon Design Engineer
AlteraJob Title
FPGA Silicon Design Engineer
Role Summary
Perform functional verification of FPGA designs to ensure they meet microarchitecture and specification requirements. Work within the silicon/verification team to develop verification plans, testbenches, and simulation environments, and to validate feature coverage through pre-silicon simulation and debug.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. The posting specifies a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include creating and executing verification strategies across RTL and system levels, reproducing and debugging issues, and collaborating with design teams to close functional gaps.
- Develop verification plans, testbenches, and verification environments to meet microarchitecture specifications.
- Execute verification plans and run system and gate-level simulations to validate functionality, timing, and power behavior.
- Replicate, root-cause, and debug pre-silicon failures; implement corrective measures and regression fixes.
- Analyze power and timing impacts as part of verification activities.
- Collaborate with FPGA architects, RTL developers, and physical design teams to verify complex architectural and microarchitectural features.
- Support integration testing with systems and software engineers when required.
- Document test plans, drive technical reviews, and report verification status and coverage results.
- Maintain and improve verification infrastructure, methodologies, and reusable components.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Must-have: Minimum of 7 years of industry experience in FPGA/RTL verification.
- Must-have: Experience with SystemVerilog.
- Must-have: Experience with UVM or OVM methodology.
- Must-have: Scripting experience (Perl or Python).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with code and functional coverage, X-propagation, and multiple RTL simulators.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with regression testing and creating reusable verification components from block to top.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Ethernet protocols.
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree in the same fields is listed as preferred.
