FPGA Prototyping Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
FPGA Prototyping Engineer
Role Summary
Join the front-end design and integration team to develop FPGA-based prototype platforms that enable early hardware validation and first-pass silicon success. Work cross-functionally with Architecture, RTL Design, Physical Design, Verification, Software, and Product Engineering teams to define and deliver prototype strategy and execution.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. Preferred 7+ years of FPGA design and SoC prototyping experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver FPGA prototype platforms and lead technical strategy, collaboration, and engineering processes.
- Define and own FPGA prototyping architecture, methodology roadmap, and platform strategy for complex SoCs.
- Partition multi-FPGA designs and define interconnect, clocking, and debug infrastructure.
- Lead RTL adaptation, implementation flows, verification infrastructure, and regression environments for prototypes.
- Drive system-level debug capabilities and board bring-up activities.
- Coordinate across Architecture, RTL, Verification, Emulation, Software, and Firmware teams to enable early validation and software bring-up.
- Provide technical leadership: mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and manage program milestones.
- Establish and improve engineering processes, implementation methodologies, and documentation standards.
- Represent the prototyping organization in architecture and program reviews and engage EDA/FPGA tool vendors to resolve technical issues.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred for successful execution of the role.
- Must-have: Substantial hands-on FPGA design and implementation experience; strong SystemVerilog and/or Verilog design and verification skills.
- Must-have: Experience with multi-FPGA partitioning, timing closure, floorplanning, CDC analysis, pipelining, and performance optimization.
- Must-have: Proficiency with AMD/Xilinx Vivado and Vitis toolchains.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of modern SoC architectures, memory subsystems, interconnects (AXI, ACE, CHI), CPUs, caches, and I/O protocols (PCIe, DDR).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Synopsys HAPS and/or Cadence Protium prototyping platforms.
- Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, USB, and HBM.
- Nice-to-have: Proven leadership on large-scale semiconductor prototyping programs and experience collaborating with EDA/FPGA tool vendors.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
