FPGA Post Silicon Validation Engineer - Security
AlteraJob Title
FPGA Post Silicon Validation Engineer - Security
Role Summary
Join the Silicon Validation team to lead device- and IP-level validation of FPGA security features including secure boot and root-of-trust. The role focuses on ensuring security, reliability, and system integrity for FPGA and SoC devices through hands-on bring-up, debug, and cross-functional collaboration.
Work closely with architecture, design, firmware, and platform teams to develop validation strategies and influence future secure FPGA products.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 8+ years of hands-on silicon validation experience focused on FPGA configuration, security, SoC, or embedded processor subsystems.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and executing validation plans, debugging silicon issues, and improving validation infrastructure.
- Develop validation strategies aligned with device architecture, security requirements, and business objectives.
- Validate security features: secure boot, authentication, encryption, key management, root-of-trust, and protection against unauthorized access.
- Create and execute test cases and vectors for configuration robustness, security corner cases, fault injection, and negative testing.
- Perform device and system bring-up, debug security violations, boot hangs, and issues across silicon revisions.
- Validate on evaluation boards, reference platforms, and customer-like systems to ensure interoperability and real-world coverage.
- Drive improvements in validation methodologies, automation, and test infrastructure for better coverage and scalability.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and board teams to ensure security-ready evaluation platforms and observability for debug.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: 8+ years of silicon validation experience with a strong focus on FPGA configuration, security, SoC, or embedded processor subsystems.
- Must-have: Strong knowledge of hardware security concepts: secure boot, authentication, encryption, key storage, lifecycle states, and threat modeling.
- Must-have: Hands-on system-level validation and debug experience including power-on bring-up, failure analysis, and silicon issue triage.
- Must-have: Experience with test automation and scripting (Python) for validation infrastructure.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with FPGA and SoC architectures.
- Nice-to-have: Verilog familiarity.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (as stated). No certifications specified.
