Job Title
FPGA Post Silicon Validation Engineer - HPS USB
Role Summary
Lead device- and system-level post-silicon validation for HPS USB subsystems on FPGA SoC products. Responsible for ensuring USB host/device functionality, boot flows, connectivity, and peripheral interoperability meet reliability and performance targets.
The role is hands-on and involves SoC bring-up, protocol validation, embedded processor subsystem validation, silicon debug, and close collaboration with architecture, design, firmware, and platform teams.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 8+ years of post-silicon validation experience focused on SoC, HPS, USB, or high-speed I/O subsystems.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute post-silicon validation strategies and test plans for HPS USB subsystems (USB 2.0/3.x Host, Device, OTG, Hub, peripherals).
- Perform system bring-up and debug of HPS subsystems: USB connectivity, protocol compliance, reset sequencing, clocking, PHY initialization, and HW–SW interactions.
- Create and run interoperability, stress, performance, negative, and corner-case tests; perform benchmarking and regression runs.
- Debug silicon and system issues using protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, and USB compliance tools.
- Drive root-cause analysis and coordinate triage across silicon, firmware, software, and board/platform teams.
- Develop automation frameworks and regression environments using Python, TCL, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- Improve validation coverage, observability, and debug capabilities through collaboration with architecture, firmware, design, and board teams.
- Drive improvements in validation methodology, automation, and lab infrastructure to increase quality and execution efficiency.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 8+ years post-silicon validation experience with emphasis on SoC, HPS, USB, or high-speed I/O subsystems.
- Strong understanding of USB 2.0/3.x architecture, protocol layers, enumeration, link training, power management, and compliance requirements.
- Experience validating embedded processor subsystems, including boot loaders, Linux environments, device drivers, memory bring-up, and peripheral validation.
- Strong hardware and software debug skills and experience troubleshooting complex system-level issues.
- Hands-on experience with USB protocol analyzers (e.g., LeCroy Voyager, Total Phase), oscilloscopes, and validation lab equipment.
- Proficiency in Python, TCL, Bash, or similar scripting languages for automation and test infrastructure development.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work across architecture, design, firmware, and board teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with FPGA SoC architectures and embedded systems design.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
