Job Title

FPGA Intern (Fall 2026)

Role Summary

Internship on the hardware engineering team focused on FPGA RTL design, verification, and hardware bring-up for satellite communications systems. Work closely with electrical and software engineers to implement and test FPGA-based data-paths and peripheral interfaces.

Internships typically last twelve weeks and are hourly roles for students enrolled at a four-year university.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship β€” intended for current undergraduate or graduate students; no specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include FPGA RTL development, integration, and verification:

  • Develop RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) for FPGA-targeted applications.
  • Integrate and test designs across multiple FPGAs and toolchains.
  • Interface FPGAs with peripherals including high-speed data converters, memories, and microcontrollers.
  • Write host or embedded software to exercise and validate RTL in hardware.
  • Collaborate with electrical and software engineers on system-level integration and debug.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications:

  • U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent resident status, or protected individual (refugee/asylee) required due to export-control regulations.
  • Proficiency with Verilog or SystemVerilog for synthesis.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and testing high-throughput systems on FPGAs.
  • Hands-on hardware development aptitude and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-have (bonus) skills:

  • UVM and advanced SystemVerilog verification experience.
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGAs, Vivado, and TCL.
  • Familiarity with power, thermal, and area/system-level tradeoffs.
  • Experience with high-speed data converters (ADCs, DACs, JESD204B) and circuit-level debugging.
  • Background in digital communications (e.g., LDPC), RF/IF/IQ domains, or space-based systems.
  • Experience in at least one domain beyond logic design (DSP, software, hi-rel design, etc.).

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent at a four-year university. Internship roles are designed for enrolled students; applicants who have already graduated should apply to Associate Engineer. "Or equivalent" practical experience is acknowledged.

Compensation: Base hourly pay $29.00 per hour.
