Job Title

FPGA Hardware Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Common Hardware Group (CHG) FPGA team supporting high-end routing platforms (ASR8000). Responsible for translating networking system requirements into FPGA implementations, participating in validation, and supporting production release.

Work closely with diagnostics, software, board design, manufacturing, and hardware qualification teams to deliver control-path FPGA designs for router line cards.

Experience Level

Senior. The posting indicates 7+ years related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 4+ years with a Master's degree.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include FPGA design, validation, and cross-functional integration for router control-path functions.

  • Translate system/networking requirements into FPGA functional blocks and RTL specifications.
  • Write and maintain Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL; run simulations and perform timing closure.
  • Generate FPGA programming files and support board bring-up and production release.
  • Validate designs and debug system-level issues in collaboration with software, diagnostics, and board teams.
  • Participate in reviews, lead technical meetings, and drive issues to resolution across stakeholders.
  • Support manufacturing and hardware qualification activities for deployed boards.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • Proven FPGA or ASIC development experience from specification through production.
  • Strong Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL coding and RTL simulation experience.
  • Experience with industry-leading FPGA devices and vendor toolflows.
  • Ability to address timing constraints, perform timing closure, and generate programming files.
  • Skilled at system-level debugging and cross-functional collaboration with software, board design, manufacturing, and qualification teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with UVM and/or VMM verification methodologies.
  • High-speed design debug and low-level networking card debug experience.
  • Experience with advanced microprocessor-based designs and CPU-based peripheral architectures.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical field (with 7+ years related experience), or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical field (with 4+ years related experience). The posting specifies degree plus years of experience rather than an alternative "equivalent experience" statement.
