Job Title

FPGA Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Develop FPGA firmware for advanced photonic and embedded systems used in mission-critical autonomous platforms. Work within a small engineering team to implement deterministic, low-latency processing, timing, and closed-loop control.

Role is with a company based in Austin, TX; local candidates are preferred but remote US-based engineers who can travel to Austin occasionally will be considered.

Experience Level

Mid-level (no specific years of experience stated).

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and deliver production FPGA firmware and related verification artifacts.

  • Implement deterministic low-latency data paths and closed-loop control on FPGAs.
  • Interface FPGAs with sensors and hardware control systems.
  • Perform timing closure and optimization to meet latency and reliability targets.
  • Develop digital signal processing blocks for low-latency processing.
  • Integrate firmware with embedded systems for autonomous, robotics, or navigation applications.
  • Collaborate in a small cross-functional team and support occasional travel to the Austin, TX office.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and constraints.

  • Experience developing FPGA firmware using VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Experience with sensor interfacing and hardware control.
  • Proven ability to achieve FPGA timing closure and perform optimization.
  • Experience implementing closed-loop control systems on digital hardware.
  • Experience with low-latency digital signal processing.
  • Experience in autonomous systems, robotics, or navigation technologies.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder (required for this role).
  • Ability to travel to Austin, TX occasionally; local candidates preferred.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in photonics-enabled systems or embedded photonics control.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
