Job Title

FPGA Engineer β€” Verilog, SystemVerilog & Embedded C

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA-based Electronic Safe-and-Arm devices for Department of Defense weapon systems. The role covers architecture, FPGA implementation, embedded firmware, verification, and system bring-up within a cross-functional engineering team.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Specific years of experience not stated; role expects practical FPGA and embedded systems experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include translating requirements into FPGA and firmware designs, verifying functionality, and supporting hardware bring-up and debugging.

  • Design and implement digital logic in Verilog and SystemVerilog for FPGA targets.
  • Develop embedded firmware in C and use C# for tooling or host-side software as needed.
  • Create and execute verification plans, simulations, and testbenches.
  • Perform synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and resource optimization.
  • Debug hardware and firmware at board and system level using lab equipment.
  • Analyze requirements and produce architecture and design specifications.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and test reports.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and systems engineering for integration and delivery.

Requirements

Key must-have skills followed by preferred additions.

  • Proven FPGA design experience using Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Embedded firmware development experience in C; familiarity with C# for tooling or host software.
  • Experience with FPGA tool flows (for example Vivado or Quartus) and RTL-to-bitstream flow.
  • Strong digital design fundamentals: state machines, timing, clocking, and reset strategies.
  • Hands-on debugging experience at FPGA, board, and system level.
  • Experience creating verification testbenches and running RTL simulations/regressions.
  • Ability to translate requirements into verifiable designs and documentation.
  • Nice-to-have: prior experience on safety-critical or defense systems, familiarity with standards such as DO-254/DO-178, and experience with mixed-signal interfaces or high-speed serial links.

Education Requirements
