FPGA Engineer, Senior
Role Summary
Lead technical programs delivering FPGA-based microelectronics solutions for advanced systems, sensors, and processing technologies supporting Department of Defense customers. Provide technical and programmatic leadership across design, verification, fabrication, packaging, and trust/assurance activities.
Work directly with government customers to perform technical assessments, strategic planning, and engineering evaluations for assurance and fielding of critical microelectronics systems.
Experience Level
Senior β requires significant hands-on FPGA development and research experience. The posting specifies 7+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, system design, verification, and program support.
- Lead design, development, testing, fielding, and sustainment of FPGA and microelectronics systems.
- Provide technical and programmatic advice to government customers and lead engineering evaluations.
- Develop hardware architecture, block diagrams, state diagrams, and schematics for FPGA-based systems.
- Create hardware design specifications, technical plans, circuit-level designs, and verification plans.
- Perform functional analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definitions.
- Oversee verification, formal acceptance testing, and production test activities.
- Address security, trust, and assurance considerations in hardware and design flows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and hands-on experience.
- 7+ years of FPGA development and research experience across multiple device families and platforms.
- Proficiency with Hardware Description Languages (HDL) and embedded design practices.
- Experience implementing HDL for systems-on-chip or FPGAs, with or without microcontrollers.
- Familiarity with hardware and design security concepts, verification methodologies, and test benches; experience with embedded software is expected.
- Knowledge of alternatives to traditional HDL in FPGA workflows (e.g., HDL Coder, Xilinx System Generator).
- Ability to perform technical planning, implementation, verification, and production testing for hardware designs.
- Proven ability to lead hardware design efforts and coordinate cross-discipline engineering tasks.
- Active or eligible for Secret security clearance required.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering preferred; Doctorate is a plus.
Nice to Have
- Experience in verification of defense microelectronics systems.
- Familiarity with microelectronics design and verification landscape including various IP block types.
- Experience with Universal Verification Methodology (UVM).
- Experience with continuous integration and automated build/test workflows.
