FPGA Engineer, Senior

Role Summary

Lead design, verification, and delivery of FPGA-based microelectronics systems for advanced defense and sensor applications. Provide technical and programmatic guidance across design, fabrication, packaging, trust, and assurance activities.

Work with government customers on technical assessments, strategic planning, engineering evaluations, and fielding/sustainment of secure microelectronics systems.

Experience Level

Senior — 7+ years of FPGA development and research across multiple device families and platforms.

Responsibilities

Deliver technical leadership and engineering across FPGA programs and lifecycle activities.

• Lead major microelectronics and FPGA design programs, including planning and execution.
• Provide technical and programmatic advice to government customers and stakeholders.
• Lead design, development, verification, test, fielding, and sustainment of FPGA systems.
• Perform architecture definition, functional block diagrams, state diagrams, and schematic development.
• Conduct technical planning, circuit-level design, implementation, and verification activities.
• Lead requirements allocation, interface definition, trade studies, and engineering evaluations.
• Develop and apply trust, assurance, and hardware security practices in microelectronics systems.

Requirements

Core technical skills, clearance, and hands-on FPGA experience required. Education requirements are listed under "Education Requirements" below.

Must-have:

• 7+ years of FPGA development and FPGA research across multiple device families and platforms.
• Hands-on Hardware Description Language (HDL) development and embedded design experience.
• Experience implementing HDL for systems-on-chip or FPGAs (with or without microcontrollers).
• Understanding of hardware and design security concepts, verification methodologies, and test benches; familiarity with embedded software interactions.
• Familiarity with HDL alternatives/tools such as HDL Coder or Xilinx System Generator.
• Ability to develop hardware design specifications; perform technical planning, circuit-level design, implementation, verification, formal acceptance, and production tests.
• Ability to perform functional analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to meet customer requirements.
• Ability to lead hardware design activities including architecture planning and generation of functional diagrams and schematics.
• Eligibility for and maintenance of a Secret security clearance (Secret required).

Nice-to-have:

• Experience verifying defense microelectronics systems and working with various IP block types.
• Experience with Universal Verification Methodology (UVM).
• Experience with continuous integration practices for hardware/firmware development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering preferred; Doctorate (PhD) in those fields is a plus.
