Job Title

FPGA Engineer (Requisition 26707)

Role Summary

Design, implement, and optimize FPGA-based solutions for signal processing and electronic warfare/radar systems within HII Mission Technologies' Warfare Systems group. The role supports system engineering, integration, verification and validation across concept, design, test, installation, and maintenance phases.

Work is performed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in the Dayton, Ohio area supporting defense and intelligence customers; tasks include lab test support, algorithm/software/hardware integration, and technical risk analysis.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience expectation: approximately 3–7 years; the posting specifies ~5 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree (see Education Requirements for full guidance).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include system- and component-level technical work, verification and test support, and documentation:

  • Design and implement FPGA-based hardware and firmware for signal processing and EW/radar applications.
  • Perform system integration, verification, validation, and lab test execution.
  • Conduct RF chain and radar system performance analysis and trade studies.
  • Translate customer requirements into hardware/software specifications and interface definitions.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, and test reports; support technical publications for customer deliverables.
  • Identify technical risk and support technical/functional leadership in mitigation activities.
  • Provide hands-on support across lab facilities, including algorithms, software, hardware, and networking integration.
  • Support deployments and travel as required (deployment periods typically 2–3 weeks).

Requirements

Must-have skills, conditions, and physical requirements. Degree specifics are listed under Education Requirements below.

  • Experience with radar or electronic warfare (EW) system design, testing, and signal processing techniques.
  • Practical experience with MATLAB and performance-analysis tools for EW/radar systems.
  • Hands-on test, integration, and verification experience in lab environments.
  • Skills spanning algorithms, firmware/software, hardware, and networking integration.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and deploy for extended periods (typical deployments 2–3 weeks); required travel 0–10%.
  • Physical ability to bend, reach, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs and to work outdoors in adverse weather when required.
  • Must hold at least a Secret clearance to start and be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with additional checks.

Education Requirements

Acceptable: Bachelor's degree in a related field (typical requirement: 5 years relevant experience with a BS); Master's in a related field (typical: 3 years relevant experience); PhD or JD (0 years experience required). Alternatively, High School Diploma or equivalent with 9 years relevant experience. Posting references "related field" rather than specific majors; equivalent practical experience is accepted per the listed combinations.
