FPGA Engineer (Remote)
Role Summary
Senior FPGA engineer responsible for architecting, implementing, verifying and optimizing FPGA-based hardware for trading applications. Works on the full FPGA design flow, from specification and floorplanning through timing closure and validation.
This is a 100% remote role; the employer may provide relocation for some candidates. The engineer will collaborate with hardware engineers, other technologists and traders and contribute to continuous integration and test-driven development practices.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 9+ years of FPGA design experience (experience stated in the posting).
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities focus on FPGA architecture, implementation and verification for low-latency trading hardware.
- Architect and implement FPGA designs in hardware description languages, produce design documentation, perform timing analysis and floorplanning.
- Simulate, validate and analyze designs for functional correctness, timing and resource efficiency.
- Research, design and develop custom hardware solutions for trading teams.
- Evaluate and integrate vendor IP cores, including secure IP, and assess IP for fit and performance.
- Participate in continuous integration, test-driven development and design reviews with cross-functional teams.
- Work independently and collaboratively with engineers and traders to meet performance and deployment goals.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: 9+ years of FPGA design experience covering the full FPGA design lifecycle and tool flow.
- Must-have: Strong Verilog expertise; proficiency with VHDL and SystemVerilog.
- Must-have: Experience with high-speed Ethernet (10G or higher) and relevant network protocols.
- Must-have: Experience with functional simulation and verification using tools such as ModelSim.
- Must-have: Experience evaluating and integrating vendor IP cores, including secure IP.
- Must-have: Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with C/C++, Python or other scripting languages.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with financial services and trading systems.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with FPGA vendor toolchains such as Vivado or ISE.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree from a 4-year university in electrical engineering, computer science or a related technical field (specified in the posting).
