FPGA Engineer: Physical AI & Robotics
Role Summary
Develop FPGA and Adaptive SoC reference designs, proof-of-concepts, and customer solutions for Physical AI applications (robotics, industrial automation, autonomous machines, machine vision, and edge AI) using AMD Adaptive SoCs and Ryzen AI Embedded processors.
Work across hardware, embedded software, and AI acceleration with AMD architecture, silicon, software, product teams, ecosystem partners, and customers to bring platforms from prototype to production and to provide real-world feedback that influences future products. Location: San Jose, CA or Austin, TX. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement FPGA and Adaptive SoC solutions for robotics, industrial automation, autonomous systems, and intelligent edge devices.
- Create reference architectures, demo platforms, and proof-of-concept designs showcasing AMD Adaptive SoC and Ryzen AI Embedded technologies.
- Develop FPGA RTL, AI Engine code, HLS blocks, and embedded software using Vivado, Vitis, Vitis HLS, Yocto, and related toolchains.
- Integrate and validate high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, DisplayPort, MIPI CSI/DSI, USB, CAN) and industrial communication protocols.
- Develop sensor-processing pipelines for cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMUs, and other edge sensors.
- Support board bring-up, silicon validation, hardware debugging, and system performance optimization on next-generation platforms.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external customers to accelerate deployment and troubleshoot complex system-level issues.
- Analyze root causes and deliver robust technical solutions; stay current with trends in AI, robotics, machine vision, and heterogeneous computing.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- FPGA development using Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL and familiarity with Vivado/Vitis toolchains.
- Experience with HLS, AI Engine development, or comparable FPGA acceleration workflows.
- Embedded software development in C/C++ and experience with Embedded Linux, Yocto, RTOS, or bare-metal environments.
- Hardware/software co-design experience integrating FPGA accelerators with embedded processors and system architectures.
- Integration and validation of high-speed interfaces and sensors (PCIe, Ethernet, MIPI, USB, CAN, cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMUs).
- Strong system integration, board bring-up, debugging, and performance optimization skills using industry hardware-debug tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer-facing technical skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with control systems, motor control, DSP algorithm implementation, or AI inference acceleration on edge devices.
- Experience developing solutions for robotics, autonomous systems, industrial automation, or machine vision.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD workflows, and modern software development practices.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
