Job Title

FPGA Engineer II

Role Summary

Design, verify, integrate, and provide lifecycle support for production-quality FPGA designs used in sensor and effector products within the Multi-Product Power & Digital (MPD) department. Work with multidisciplinary teams to define requirements, develop architectures, execute detailed design and simulation, and perform integration and verification on hardware.

This is an onsite role supporting defense systems in Fort Wayne, IN and requires appropriate security clearance.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant FPGA/ASIC engineering or verification experience; aligns with an Engineer II role.

Responsibilities

Provide full lifecycle engineering for FPGA-based systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain FPGA designs (VHDL and/or Verilog) for applications such as gigabit serial interfaces, RF DSP, controls, data links, and embedded processor interfaces.
  • Assist architecture development: select parts, define interfaces, and capture concept of operations (CONOPS).
  • Implement reliable, maintainable VHDL/Verilog code and associated constraints.
  • Support design verification using self-checking tests, directed and constrained-random techniques, and track functional/code coverage.
  • Integrate and debug FPGA/ASIC hardware in the lab environment.
  • Create and maintain documentation: requirements, verification plans, and user guides; record designs in configuration management tools.
  • Report execution status against budget and schedule using an agile framework and present results to leadership.
  • Function as an individual contributor and pursue professional development.

Requirements

Mandatory technical skills and conditions:

  • FPGA/ASIC design experience (VHDL and/or Verilog) or FPGA/ASIC verification experience (SystemVerilog).
  • Experience with AMD (Xilinx), Intel/Altera, and/or Microchip (Microsemi) devices and vendor tools such as Vivado, Quartus Prime Pro, or Libero.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and debugging FPGA/ASIC in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience with source code management, design reviews, and team-based code release processes.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance required after day 1; U.S. citizenship is required and ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance is mandatory.
  • Ability to work onsite in Fort Wayne, IN.

Education Requirements

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics). Advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field are preferred. The posting indicates a suitable degree may be counted as two years of work experience; relevant technical education or equivalent practical experience is expected.
