Job Title
FPGA Engineer I
Role Summary
Work on the Multi-Product Power & Digital (MPD) team designing FPGAs, circuit cards, and electronics subassemblies for missiles, radars, and electronic warfare systems. Provide design, verification, integration, and sustainment support across the product lifecycle.
This is an individual-contributor onsite role in McKinney, TX focused on production-quality FPGA designs and delivery against schedule and budget.
Experience Level
Entry-level — typically less than 2 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Design, verify, and deliver FPGA-based systems and support throughout development and production.
- Develop FPGA designs in VHDL (and/or Verilog) for gigabit serial interfaces, RF DSP, controls, data links, and processor interfaces.
- Assist architecture development: select parts, define interfaces, and establish CONOPS for FPGA subsystems.
- Implement self-checking verification, directed and constrained-random tests; track functional and code coverage.
- Integrate and debug FPGA/ASIC hardware in a lab environment; support timing, CDC, and reset-domain analysis as needed.
- Produce and maintain documentation: requirements, verification plans, and user guides; present technical status to leadership.
- Report execution status against budget and schedule using an agile framework; participate in design reviews and code releases.
Requirements
Key technical skills and eligibility requirements.
-
Must-have: Hands-on FPGA/ASIC design or verification experience (VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog) and familiarity with AMD (Xilinx), Intel/Altera, or Microchip/Microsemi devices.
-
Must-have: Experience with toolchains such as Vivado, Quartus Prime Pro, or Libero and with lab integration and hardware debug.
-
Must-have: Experience with source code management, participating in design reviews, and performing code releases in a team environment.
-
Must-have: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required. An active DoD Secret clearance is required after day one.
-
Nice-to-have: Constrained-random verification (UVM/SystemVerilog), high-level synthesis (HLS), embedded processors (ARM, MicroBlaze, NIOS), or experience with vector processors/GPUs.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with gigabit/multi-gigabit transceivers, timing closure, clock-domain crossing, reset-domain analysis, and demonstrated leadership of small design efforts.
Education Requirements
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related). This role is commonly filled by candidates with less than two years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees (MS/PhD) in Electrical Engineering or related STEM fields are valued; a suitable degree may be counted as up to two years of work experience.
