Job Title
FPGA Engineer / FPGA Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Hands-on FPGA/ASIC engineer responsible for RTL design, verification, and generation of certification artifacts for airborne electronic hardware. Works with cross-functional engineering teams to develop, verify, and integrate FPGA-based subsystems on aggressive schedules.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically requires a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or 3 years with an advanced degree.
Responsibilities
Deliver RTL and verification for FPGA/SoPC/ASIC projects and support certification and integration activities.
- Capture, decompose, and maintain requirements and traceability.
- Develop RTL and testbenches in VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog.
- Define verification strategies and implement on-hardware verification environments, test frameworks, and tools.
- Create hardware test cases, procedures, and perform integration testing.
- Perform ASIC/FPGA/SoPC verification using inspection, analysis, simulation, and hardware test methods.
- Produce DO-254 DAL-A artifacts for Airborne Electronic Hardware (AEH) developments.
- Participate in peer reviews and FAA SOI audits; communicate status with engineering, program management, and customers.
- Recommend improvements to the ASIC/FPGA design and verification flow; mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
Required technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- Experience writing RTL and testbenches using VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog and UVM (constrained-random, functional/code coverage).
- Familiarity with DO-254 processes and design assurance activities for ASIC/FPGA/SoPC developments.
- Proficiency with FPGA toolchains and simulators (examples: Questasim, Vivado, Libero, Synplify Pro).
- Experience with Linux/Unix and scripting; competent in C/C++, Python, and/or Perl.
- Experience with common data interfaces (PCIe, DDR, I2C, Ethernet, CDN, ARINC-429).
- Ability to work with minimal supervision across distributed teams and meet aggressive milestones.
Nice-to-have:
- Previous experience producing certification artifacts for airborne systems.
- Experience recommending and deploying verification tooling and process improvements.
Education Requirements
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience; equivalent practical experience may be acceptable.
