FPGA Engineer
EridanJob Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Mid-level engineering role focused on designing, implementing, and validating FPGA-based subsystems for an Open RAN Radio Unit (RU) platform. The role sits on the hardware/firmware team and works closely with system and software engineers to deliver production-ready FPGA designs.
Work will include DSP algorithm implementation, RTL development, timing closure, board bring-up, and performance analysis.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically 3–6 years of hands-on FPGA design and development experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and delivering FPGA components for ORAN RU products and supporting integration and validation.
- Design, implement, and integrate FPGA-based solutions for Open RAN Radio Units.
- Implement and optimize DSP algorithms in hardware for high-performance compute tasks.
- Use Xilinx (AMD) platforms (Zynq; Versal a plus) and Vivado for synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
- Collaborate with system and software teams to translate algorithms into efficient RTL implementations.
- Participate in board bring-up, hardware debugging, and validation activities.
- Analyze and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks across FPGA and system-level designs.
- Contribute to feature development and enhancements of existing RU products.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience required to perform the role.
- 3–6 years of FPGA design and development experience.
- Strong understanding of digital signal processing concepts and hardware implementation.
- Hands-on experience with Xilinx (AMD) tools and platforms, especially Vivado and Zynq.
- RTL design and simulation experience (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) and good digital design practices.
- Familiarity with timing closure, synthesis, and place-and-route processes.
- Experience with hardware debugging tools and board bring-up procedures.
- Experience with Siemens Questa simulation tools.
- Experience with Git/GitHub and CI principles; scripting and Linux experience.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Xilinx Versal platforms.
- Background in telecommunications and familiarity with Open RAN architecture and protocols.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces and data movement (Ethernet, PTP, SyncE, JESD204).
Education Requirements
Not specified.
