FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and validate FPGA designs for a Microchip project. Work with senior engineers on RTL development, FPGA implementation, embedded firmware, hardware validation, and board bring-up.

Experience Level

Mid-level - 2–5 years of relevant FPGA experience (posting also lists 3 years required).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include RTL development, FPGA implementation, validation on hardware, and support for bring-up and debugging.

  • Develop RTL in Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
  • Implement FPGA designs and support timing closure.
  • Validate FPGA functionality on hardware and create validation test cases.
  • Develop embedded firmware in C/C++ for processor interfaces.
  • Debug FPGA systems and support board bring-up activities.
  • Develop processor interface modules and memory interface logic.
  • Prepare technical documentation for designs and validation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 2–5 years FPGA experience; posting explicitly lists 3 years required.
  • RTL design and verification using Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
  • FPGA implementation and timing closure experience with tools such as Vivado, Libero, or Quartus.
  • Embedded firmware development in C/C++.
  • Experience with one or more protocols: AXI, AHB, APB, UART, SPI, USB, I2C, I3C, and memory interfaces.
  • FPGA validation, testbench development, and lab debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and embedded debuggers.
  • Version control and tooling: Git, SVN, TCL scripting.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, analytical thinking, and debugging skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with ARM or RISC-V architectures.
