Job Title
FPGA Engineer (Contract)
Role Summary
Contract hardware/FPGA engineer responsible for FPGA prototyping platforms and post-silicon validation. The role owns board images/bitfiles, develops firmware-style tests, extends build flows, and debugs silicon and platform issues in the lab.
Experience Level
Senior β approximately 7 years of relevant experience in FPGA prototyping, firmware-style test development, and post-silicon bring-up.
Responsibilities
Primary technical responsibilities for the contract engagement:
- Develop C/C++ bare-metal and firmware-style test content and low-level drivers for subsystems and SoCs, including self-checking tests.
- Extend compile/build flows to support custom firmware-style tests and automation.
- Own the team's FPGA prototyping platform (e.g., HAPS or Xilinx): create and release board images and bitfiles; design additional RTL for protocol interfaces and features.
- Develop and maintain Python tooling to interface with FPGA platforms and automate workflows.
- Debug FPGA and post-silicon issues using JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
- Drive post-silicon bring-up and validation in the lab, run validation suites on first silicon, and meet bring-up exit criteria on schedule.
- Root-cause failing post-silicon tests, analyze scan dumps, coordinate cross-team debug, and deliver fixes to firmware, drivers, and hardware.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 7+ years relevant experience in firmware-style testing, FPGA prototyping, and post-silicon validation.
- Proven experience developing C and C++ test content for subsystem and SoC verification, including bare-metal tests.
- Hands-on experience bringing up and maintaining FPGA prototyping platforms (HAPS or Xilinx), including platform tooling and testbench changes.
- Working knowledge of SystemVerilog testbenches and verification principles.
- Practical hardware debug skills with JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
- Experience with post-silicon verification and bring-up: test planning, failure debug, and coverage signoff.
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages (Perl, Ruby) for automation, build flows, and parsing logs/data.
- Familiarity with industry protocols such as AMBA (AXI/AHB/APB), JTAG, SPI, I2C/I3C, and USB.
- Strong understanding of silicon and/or computer architecture and ability to collaborate across architecture, design, firmware, and validation teams.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
