FPGA Engineer, EW
AndurilJob Title
FPGA Engineer, EW
Role Summary
The FPGA Engineer will design and verify FPGA subsystems for software-defined radio platforms used in electronic warfare (EW). The role sits on the EW team and spans architecture, HDL design, integration, bring-up, and test of AMD/Xilinx SoC/FPGA-based systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level (4β7 years professional experience)
Responsibilities
Work across hardware, firmware, and software teams to deliver FPGA-based EW processing. Key responsibilities include:
- Own FPGA development for software-defined radio platforms enabling EW functions.
- Design and test VHDL/Verilog DSP modules and FPGA infrastructure.
- Integrate modules into larger FPGA cores and resolve resource and timing contention.
- Develop drivers and interfaces for custom RF component boards (PLLs, mixed-signal front ends).
- Bring up boards in collaboration with electrical and software engineers; perform system integration and verification.
- Use CI/HITL workflows for validation and support lab test activities (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers).
- Manage project deliverables, documentation, and technical communication to stakeholders.
Requirements
Core technical skills and clearances required to perform the role.
-
Must-have:
- 4β7 years professional FPGA experience.
- Experience with major FPGA vendors (AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera).
- Strong understanding of FPGA architecture and device primitives.
- Experience with clock-domain crossing (CDC) strategies and static timing analysis (STA).
- Familiarity with high-speed digital interfaces (PCIe, JESD, Aurora, multi-Gbps optical).
- Proficient in HDL (VHDL and/or Verilog) and using higher-level languages for test (C, Python, SystemVerilog).
- Proficient in Linux development and Git-based CI/CD workflows.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Self-starter with strong communication skills.
-
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with AMD SoC/FPGAs and advanced features (partial reconfiguration, DFX, NOC).
- Working knowledge of signal-processing flows from data converters to bits.
- Exposure to wireless communications or radar systems design.
- Experience with RF test equipment and DSP implementation for embedded SDRs.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
