Job Title
FPGA Engineer (Senior)
Role Summary
Design, implement, and verify FPGA-based electronic systems across the program lifecycle for high-reliability applications. Work within a cross-functional engineering team on R&D, proof-of-concept, and production programs, with emphasis on FPGA SoC designs, high-speed digital electronics, and verification.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting specifies a minimum of ~4 years of relevant experience (typically BS + 4 years) with higher degrees substituting for years of experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, design, implementation, and verification of FPGA systems, plus team collaboration and program support.
- Architect and implement FPGA/SoC designs, digital filters, image processing blocks, and communication interfaces/protocols.
- Develop and document high-speed digital electronics and embedded processor integrations.
- Lead or support verification activities for complex FPGA SoC designs using vendor tools and IP.
- Work on R&D, prototype, and production efforts for high-reliability or space-capable systems.
- Translate system/subsystem requirements into board/FPGA requirements and implementation plans.
- Coordinate with electrical engineers and stakeholders; maintain schedules and program documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program objectives.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Verification experience with FPGAs and FPGA-based designs.
- Proficient in HDL (VHDL, Verilog) and SystemVerilog for design and verification.
- Experience with FPGA design flows and vendor tools (general FPGA toolchain usage required).
- Strong background in high-speed digital electronics and embedded processor systems.
- Experience with communication interfaces and protocols; ability to design and verify interfaces.
- Ability to derive and flow down requirements from system to board/FPGA level.
- Clear written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Xilinx/AMD toolchains (Vivado, Vitis) and ModelSim/QuestaSim.
- Familiarity with OVM/UVM verification methodologies.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet) and signal-integrity tools (e.g., HyperLynx).
- Background in signal processing/DSP algorithms, cybersecurity considerations, and work in space/aerospace or other high-reliability domains.
- Demonstrated technical leadership on FPGA projects and experience estimating specs, cost, schedule, and resources.
Education Requirements
BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required, with 4+ years of related experience. A Master’s or Ph.D. may substitute for two years of experience each. Related technical experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education. Degree should be from an accredited institution.
