Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, implement, and test FPGA-based RF and software-defined radio (SDR) capabilities in a research and development environment supporting government programs. Collaborate with engineers to integrate FPGA designs with RF hardware and embedded systems across the full development lifecycle.
Experience Level
Senior β 7+ years of professional experience as stated in the posting.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include FPGA RTL design, verification, and integration with RF and embedded systems.
- Develop RTL (VHDL or Verilog) and complete FPGA designs through implementation and testing.
- Simulate and verify designs using tools such as ModelSim or Questa.
- Debug at the module and system level and perform hardware/software integration with RF systems.
- Implement and test software-defined radio (SDR) systems and real-time embedded processing.
- Work with embedded processors and FPGA fabric for integrated solutions (e.g., Xilinx SoC / RFSoC).
- Maintain version control and collaborate within a multi-discipline engineering team.
Requirements
Must-have skills, clearance, and experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Top Secret SCI clearance.
- 7+ years hands-on experience developing SDR and FPGA-based solutions.
- Proficiency in VHDL or Verilog and experience with FPGA toolchains (Xilinx Vivado or Intel/Altera).
- Experience with C, C++, MATLAB, and Linux (e.g., RedHat, Rocky Linux).
- Experience with embedded hardware systems and real-time processing.
- Hands-on RF signal processing experience, including digital RF sampling, modulation, error correction, or compression.
- Familiarity with simulation/verification tools (ModelSim, Questa) and Git for version control.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with DSP signal processing algorithms.
- Experience integrating embedded processors and FPGA fabric on Xilinx SoC / RFSoC devices.
- Experience with C5ISR, EW, SIGINT, or other communications systems.
Education Requirements
The posting states a Bachelor's degree is required and also notes an HS diploma or GED as the minimum educational requirement. Preferred fields include Engineering or Computer Science. (The posting does not specify explicit language about equivalent professional experience replacing a degree.)
