Job Title

FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Designs, tests, and documents safety-critical hardware. Develops and supports FPGA/CPLD designs through all phases of design and system integration for high-reliability embedded aerospace and ground-vehicle systems.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” approximately 5–10+ years of relevant circuit and FPGA/CPLD design experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include system-level FPGA development, verification, and hardware integration for safety-critical embedded systems.

  • Architect and implement FPGA/CPLD designs using VHDL and SystemVerilog.
  • Develop and maintain UVM test benches and verification environments.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, functional testing, and system integration.
  • Support timing, signal-integrity, and electrical-integrity analysis for FPGA integration into circuit card designs.
  • Generate FPGA code from MATLAB/Simulink models and support the toolflow.
  • Prepare design documentation and safety-critical artifacts; support DO-254 compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical results; travel up to 25%.

Requirements

Required skills and experience.

Must-have:

  • 5–10+ years of circuit design experience with demonstrated HDL-based FPGA/CPLD design capability.
  • Proficiency in VHDL and SystemVerilog; experience with UVM-based verification.
  • Hands-on hardware build, test, and system integration experience.
  • Knowledge of digital electronic devices and circuit design principles and experience integrating FPGAs into digital circuit cards.
  • Experience using MATLAB and Simulink for auto-generation of FPGA code.
  • Experience with aerospace safety processes; DO-254 experience for aerospace applications.
  • Strong problem-solving, written and oral communication skills; able to work independently and in teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Timing Designer, HyperLynx, or equivalent design/analysis tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
