FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Designs, tests, and documents safety-critical hardware. Develops and supports FPGA/CPLD designs through all phases of design and system integration for high-reliability embedded aerospace and ground-vehicle systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level β approximately 5β10+ years of relevant circuit and FPGA/CPLD design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include system-level FPGA development, verification, and hardware integration for safety-critical embedded systems.
- Architect and implement FPGA/CPLD designs using VHDL and SystemVerilog.
- Develop and maintain UVM test benches and verification environments.
- Perform hardware bring-up, functional testing, and system integration.
- Support timing, signal-integrity, and electrical-integrity analysis for FPGA integration into circuit card designs.
- Generate FPGA code from MATLAB/Simulink models and support the toolflow.
- Prepare design documentation and safety-critical artifacts; support DO-254 compliance activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical results; travel up to 25%.
Requirements
Required skills and experience.
Must-have:
- 5β10+ years of circuit design experience with demonstrated HDL-based FPGA/CPLD design capability.
- Proficiency in VHDL and SystemVerilog; experience with UVM-based verification.
- Hands-on hardware build, test, and system integration experience.
- Knowledge of digital electronic devices and circuit design principles and experience integrating FPGAs into digital circuit cards.
- Experience using MATLAB and Simulink for auto-generation of FPGA code.
- Experience with aerospace safety processes; DO-254 experience for aerospace applications.
- Strong problem-solving, written and oral communication skills; able to work independently and in teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Timing Designer, HyperLynx, or equivalent design/analysis tools.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
