Job Title
FPGA Engineer – Custom Compute Hardware
Role Summary
Design, implement, and validate FPGA prototypes for custom compute accelerators while working directly with the founding team on architecture, implementation, verification, and system integration.
This is a hands-on internship focused on FPGA architecture, RTL/HLS implementation, verification, and testing, with opportunities to learn ASIC-relevant flows and system-level prototyping.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Suitable for current students or recent graduates; no specific years of experience required.
Responsibilities
Translate architecture into working FPGA prototypes, validate designs, and support system integration and verification.
- Translate architectural concepts into FPGA prototypes and custom processing modules.
- Design and simulate modules using Verilog/SystemVerilog, VHDL, or high-level synthesis (HLS).
- Implement and validate processing components on FPGA platforms using tools such as Vivado or Quartus.
- Build testbenches, run timing and area analysis, and execute the FPGA verification test plan and matrix.
- Benchmark performance and optimize latency, area, throughput, and memory-bandwidth trade-offs.
- Collaborate with system architects, FPGA designers, and embedded software engineers for integration.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Education expectations are listed separately below.
- Experience with FPGA development and RTL or HLS-based design (Verilog/SystemVerilog, VHDL, or C).
- Experience with FPGA toolflows such as Vivado, Quartus, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of digital logic fundamentals, pipelining, and timing closure.
- Experience with memory mapping and hierarchy on FPGAs and digital system partitioning.
- Strong skills in simulation, debugging, synthesis workflows, and testbench development.
- Solid electronic circuit design or electronic systems background.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment on proof-of-concept and production programs.
Education Requirements
B.S. degree or higher in engineering (preferably Electrical Engineering or Computer Science). Equivalent practical experience in related technical fields may be acceptable.
