FPGA Engineer
United FutureJob Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA and associated hardware/firmware for Electronic Safe and Arm Devices used in DoD weapon systems. Work includes architecture, RTL design, verification, and microcontroller firmware to meet functional and performance requirements.
Team responsibilities span FPGA design targeting Microsemi/Actel devices, simulation with QuestaSim, SystemVerilog UVM verification, and embedded software development for microcontrollers.
Experience Level
Mid-level: requires at least 6 years of relevant experience (see Education Requirements for degree/experience alternatives).
Responsibilities
Primary duties include FPGA design, verification, and firmware integration for safety/arming devices.
- Analyze requirements and define architecture for FPGA, associated hardware, and microcontroller products.
- Design, implement, and debug Verilog HDL for antifuse and enhanced Flash FPGAs.
- Develop and execute SystemVerilog/UVM-based verification environments.
- Implement embedded C software for microcontrollers, including algorithm development and performance optimization.
- Use simulation tools (QuestaSim) and lab equipment to reproduce and diagnose issues on test benches and target systems.
- Profile performance and debug hardware/firmware interactions in test environments.
- Contribute to process and quality improvements to reduce time-to-market.
- Develop C# code for microcontroller-related tooling or firmware where required.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security/eligibility, and practical experience.
- US citizenship required.
- Minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience (see Education Requirements for alternatives tied to degree).
- Proven experience using Verilog for logic/RTL design targeting antifuse and enhanced Flash FPGAs.
- Embedded C programming experience: algorithm development, data structures, and optimized code for microcontrollers.
- Experience with lab tools: logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG/ICE debuggers, and protocol analyzers.
- Familiarity with Microsemi/Actel FPGA families and QuestaSim simulation environment.
- (Preferred) SystemVerilog verification experience (AVM/VMM/OVM/UVM).
- (Preferred) Experience developing C# code targeting enhanced Flash microcontrollers.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of related experience. Alternatives: a graduate degree plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience, or 10 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
