FPGA Engineer (Contractor)

Role Summary

Work on FPGA & ASIC design solutions for next-generation military GPS and high-reliability digital systems. The role spans requirements capture, digital architecture, RTL design, verification, and lab integration within a secure, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Experience Level

Senior-level engineering role. Experienced candidates with substantial FPGA/ASIC design or verification backgrounds are expected.

Responsibilities

Deliver design, verification, and integration for FPGA/ASIC subsystems and support lab bring-up.

• Capture requirements and develop digital architecture for FPGA/ASIC systems.
• Design and implement RTL using VHDL or Verilog.
• Perform timing analysis and closure for high-speed digital designs.
• Develop testbenches and perform functional verification (VHDL, SystemVerilog/UVM).
• Support constrained-random verification, functional coverage, and verification best practices.
• Execute hands-on FPGA/ASIC validation and system bring-up in lab environments.
• Work in secure, air-gapped facilities and coordinate integration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Produce clear technical documentation and presentations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in the role.

• Expertise in FPGA design and/or verification; strong VHDL experience.
• Proficiency with FPGA vendor toolchains and simulation tools (Intel/Altera tools preferred, ModelSim, Synopsys).
• Experience with high-speed digital interfaces and signal processing.
• Proven hands-on lab experience with FPGA/ASIC validation (non-negotiable).
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in documentation and presentations.
• Familiarity with timing closure, resource trade-offs, and design optimization.
• Nice-to-have: SystemVerilog/UVM, ASIC design/verification experience, advanced verification methodologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
