Job Title

FPGA Engineer, Amazon LEO (Kuiper)

Role Summary

The LEO silicon team develops FPGA prototypes and ASIC designs for satellite communication systems. This role designs, implements, and verifies FPGA-based transmit and receive signal-processing chains and supports hardware bring-up and validation through production.

Work involves close collaboration with system architects, ASIC and hardware engineers, and software teams to deliver production-capable FPGA solutions.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically 5+ years of FPGA development experience.

Responsibilities

The engineer will lead FPGA design and development for DSP systems and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready hardware.

  • Lead FPGA architecture, design, implementation, and optimization for satellite communications DSP.
  • Drive FPGA projects through the full product lifecycle from architecture to production, including prototyping for ASIC development.
  • Design, implement, and optimize digital signal processing algorithms on FPGA platforms.
  • Perform hands-on lab work: hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation.
  • Collaborate with ASIC design teams to support RTL development and verification.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote FPGA best practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and eligibility requirements. Preferred items listed as nice-to-have.

  • 5+ years of FPGA development experience with a proven record of delivering full product cycles.
  • Strong digital signal processing (DSP) background and experience implementing DSP algorithms in hardware.
  • Hands-on lab and debugging skills; experience with hardware bring-up and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with FPGA design tools such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
  • Strong knowledge of HDL languages (Verilog, VHDL, SystemVerilog).
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, SERDES, etc.).
  • U.S. citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or lawful admission as a refugee or granted asylum is required due to export control laws.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with RF/communication systems or satellite protocols; familiarity with scripting (Python, TCL, Perl), version control, and CI/CD workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
