Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Contract FPGA engineer supporting a Fortune 500 aero‑defense customer. Work on digital FPGA/ASIC front‑end development, implementation, verification, and hardware bring‑up within a systems engineering environment.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Position expects a minimum of 3 years professional experience in FPGA development; 5+ years is typical for candidates with only a bachelor's degree.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include RTL design, implementation, verification, and resolving hardware integration issues.
- Design and implement FPGA logic using VHDL or Verilog.
- Develop RTL, constraints, and integrate IP blocks for target FPGA platforms.
- Perform timing analysis, synthesize designs, and achieve timing closure.
- Use vendor toolchains (e.g., Vivado, Quartus, Libero) for implementation and bitstream generation.
- Debug and troubleshoot on‑board FPGA issues during bring‑up and system integration.
- Collaborate with system, test, and ASIC teams; participate in design and code reviews.
- Maintain version control and documentation for designs, tests, and build procedures.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security clearance, and experience for immediate contribution.
- Active U.S. government Final Secret security clearance (required).
- Minimum 3 years professional experience in FPGA development, ASIC front‑end work, or closely related areas.
- Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog for FPGA/ASIC design and implementation.
- Experience in digital circuit architecture, resource tradeoffs, timing analysis, and timing closure.
- Familiarity with FPGA platforms such as AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, or Microchip and associated toolchains (Vivado, Quartus, Libero).
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for FPGA/ASIC systems and hardware bring‑up.
- Proficiency with revision control tools and concepts (e.g., Git, Subversion).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with ASIC front‑end flows, high‑speed interfaces, or system bring‑up in defense/aerospace programs.
Education Requirements
Typically requires a STEM degree: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field with ~5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with ~3 years relevant experience. Specific certifications not stated.
