Job Title

FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA/DSP solutions for compact, fieldable RF and wireless products on the Mastodon Design team. Work spans HDL development, high-speed interface implementation, hardware bring-up, and system-level debugging in a cross-functional engineering team.

U.S. Citizenship required; candidate must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Proposed salary range: $69,100 - $141,500.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” minimum 3+ years of relevant FPGA/DSP design experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include FPGA design, integration with RF systems, and system bring-up:

  • Design, develop, modify and evaluate FPGA/DSP hardware and firmware for RF/wireless products.
  • Implement and manage pin and timing constraints and perform timing closure.
  • Integrate and debug high-speed interfaces (JESD204C, 2.5G–100G Ethernet).
  • Implement and validate transport layers such as VITA-49 in system context.
  • Create and execute laboratory bring-up and verification tests; analyze results and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware, software, test) to meet delivery schedules.
  • Document designs, test procedures, and test results for manufacturing and fielding.

Requirements

Required technical skills and clearances; items listed as "Nice-to-have" are lower priority.

  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant FPGA/DSP design experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain at least a Secret clearance.
  • Strong HDL coding skills in VHDL, Verilog, and SystemVerilog.
  • Proven ability to debug complex FPGA designs in-system and on hardware.
  • Experience implementing high-speed architectures and interfaces (JESD204C, multi-gigabit Ethernet).
  • Knowledge of communications systems and algorithms: RF filters, modulation/demodulation, channel estimation/equalization, FEC, AFC, AGC.
  • DSP baseband signal processing, peripheral programming, and scheduling.
  • Proficiency with Python, C/C++, and MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm development and tooling.
  • Self-starter with effective written and oral communication skills and ability to work on small teams under aggressive schedules.
  • Nice-to-have: SoC/FPGA families (Ultrascale+, Zynq 7000, Agilex), softcore processors (MicroBlaze, Nios, PicoBlaze), DMA/AMBA/AXI experience, hardware bring-up experience, and advanced simulation/SystemVerilog verification experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field (or equivalent academic training explicitly listed as BS or MS in the posting).
