Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, implement, verify, and support FPGA-based subsystems for high-precision, timing-critical mixed-signal electronics used in multi-column electron-beam lithography systems. Work within a small, cross-functional engineering team in Sunnyvale to take designs from architecture through prototyping, bring-up, and production.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 8+ years of hands-on FPGA design experience in production environments.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing FPGA logic, verifying functionality, and supporting hardware bring-up and production readiness.
- Architect and implement FPGA subsystems and interfaces within mixed-signal systems.
- Develop RTL (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL) and associated constraints; perform static timing analysis and timing closure.
- Create simulation-driven verification environments, assertions, and coverage metrics.
- Debug FPGA and board-level issues using ILA/SignalTap, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and system-level trace.
- Support prototype bring-up, characterization, and production validation of custom boards.
- Collaborate with PCB, signal-integrity, firmware, and software teams to integrate systems.
- Lead architecture decisions, perform design reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical qualifications and tools experience.
- 8+ years of FPGA design experience in production environments.
- Proficiency in HDL (SystemVerilog/Verilog and/or VHDL) and readable RTL practices.
- Experience with Xilinx/AMD FPGA architectures and Vivado toolchain.
- Strong knowledge of clocking architectures, CDC analysis, multi-clock systems, timing closure, constraint development (XDC/SDC), and static timing analysis.
- Simulation-driven verification experience (SystemVerilog testbenches, assertions, functional coverage) and familiarity with hardware debug tools (ILA/SignalTap, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes).
- Experience implementing and debugging high-speed interfaces: PCIe, Ethernet (1Gβ100G), DDR3/DDR4/DDR5, SerDes, LVDS, SPI, I2C, UART.
- Familiarity with version control (Git), structured development workflows, and documentation for design handoff and maintenance.
- Nice-to-have: experience with embedded processors (MicroBlaze, Nios, ARM-based SoCs).
- Nice-to-have: understanding of signal integrity and power integrity at board level.
- Nice-to-have: experience with regulated or safety-conscious systems and CI/scripted regression builds.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
