Job Title

FPGA Engineer - 26707

Role Summary

Join HII Mission Technologies' Warfare Systems team to design, implement, and validate FPGA-based solutions for signal processing and related defense systems at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. Work focuses on system-level integration, test, verification, and performance analysis in radar and electronic warfare domains.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical candidates have multiple years of relevant engineering experience; see Education Requirements for degree and equivalent-experience guidance.

Responsibilities

The role combines FPGA development with system integration and test across the product lifecycle.

  • Design, implement, and optimize FPGA solutions for signal processing and sensor systems.
  • Perform system integration, verification, and validation activities across concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance phases.
  • Translate customer and product requirements into hardware and software specifications, including interface definitions and requirements allocation.
  • Conduct functional analyses, timeline analyses, and trade studies to support system design decisions.
  • Plan, execute, and document test activities: test plans, procedures, test reports, and technical publications for customer releases.
  • Provide hands-on lab support for integration, verification, and troubleshooting across algorithms, software, hardware, and networking.
  • Support technical leadership by identifying risks and proposing mitigations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security, physical and travel requirements.

  • Active Secret security clearance minimum to start; must be able to obtain and maintain TS/SCI with extended checks.
  • Experience or strong interest in radar and electronic warfare system design, RF chain analysis, and radar system performance analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with test execution, sensor system integration and test, and verification in lab environments.
  • Proficient with signal processing tools and workflows; familiarity with MATLAB is required.
  • Practical skills across algorithms, embedded/software development, hardware debugging, and networking.
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods (deployment lengths vary; often 2–3 weeks).
  • Ability to perform physical tasks: bend, reach, stoop; lift up to 50 lbs; work outdoors in adverse weather; may require climbing ladders and working in confined spaces or extreme temperatures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for test documentation and technical reports.

Education Requirements

Degree/experience equivalencies stated in the posting: Bachelor's in a related field plus 5 years relevant experience; Master's plus 3 years; PhD or JD with 0 years relevant experience; OR High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus 9 years relevant experience. Fields implied: related technical/engineering disciplines relevant to radar, EW, signal processing, or similar. Equivalent practical experience is accepted per the listings above.
